FRENCH OR GERMAN ONE-PIECE FROCK WITH PETTICOAT AND BONNET FOR 13"-14" DOLL. CIRCA 1880-1885.
This lovely white dress and bonnet were originally made of sheer cotton batiste and ornamented with embroidery and tucking. The lining for both dress and bonnet was pale blue organdy, and the same blue organdy was used for the cording, bias trims, and box-pleated ruffles. Decorative blue silk ribbon bows completed this enchanting costume. We have endeavored to stay with the original dress as near as possible.
Suggested fabrics for the dress would be: organdy, silk. silk organza, challis, dimity, voile, plain or patterned eyelet or taffeta. For the lining: organdy, firmly woven light-weight cotton, muslin, cotton sateen, or thin silk The petticoat could have been made of any of the lining materials. For trims: lace, embroidered eyelet or ribbon. The ruffles on the dress and bonnet could be further enhanced by the addition of 3/16" lace at edges. During this period of dressing, laces were much used. (If you desire to trim your dress in this manner you will need extra lace. For bonnet 50" , dress collar 22", waist ruffle 38", wrist ruffles 16".)
The fabric requirements given are suggested amounts. It is always better to have too much, than too little. If you desire to make the costume of one fabric only, you must combine the yardages. The yardage given for the dress body and bonnet does not include the yardages for bias facing, bias trim. or the box-pleated ruffling. This you will find under contrast fabric.
